Samaritan Village, Queens, NY (Inpatient Residential Treatment Facility)

Samaritan Village, a not-for-profit organization that has served thousands of clients, believes that helping each resident rebuild his/her self esteem is an important part of therapy. We designed this four-story, 32,000 square foot residential substance abuse treatment facility with that need in mind. Developed and funded through the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), the facility provides for the needs of its 96 residents during their 9- to 12-month period of treatment. Outdoor contemplative space, flowered terraces, and unique, decorative elements contribute to this residence as a place of humaneness, dignity, and progress. Decorative metal columns at the front corners of the residence denote in a poetic way the structural forces that act upon a column. The building’s exterior includes aluminum panels, stucco, and glass. The facility contains: bedrooms, areas for medical treatment, outpatient treatment, counseling, and group therapy, classrooms, lounges, a dining area and kitchen, and offices for staff and administration.
