Healthcare
Odyssey House, New York, NY
Odyssey House was built to provide homes and services for 60 unhoused clients struggling with both mental illness and substance abuse. The building replaced tow abandoned buildings in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Along with Odyssey Manor, Odyssey House was developed by Odyssey House of New York, a non-profit substance abuse treatment group, and the New York State Office of Mental Health. The facility contains; bedrooms, a medical clinic, classrooms, group therapy rooms, dining and kitchen facilities, administrative areas, recreational lounges, and outdoor seating. We included bay windows and concrete window heads and sills to created a sense of continuity with the architectural styles of apartment houses in the surrounding neighborhood. This project won an American Institute of Architects award for design excellence.
