NYC Department of Finance, Queens, NY (2000)
This project involved the rehabilitation of nine existing buildings. The buildings had previously belonged to a food processing company, but it was necessary to convert them into one building that could house seven different government agencies. The agencies included: the NYC Department of Finance, the Parking Violations Bureau, the City Registrar, the City Surveyor, the Sheriff’s Redemption Unit, the Red Light Video Unit, and the Environmental Control Board. We needed to gain an in-depth understanding of each of the roles and needs of each of these agencies in order to ensure that the three-story, 87,000 square foot building could serve as office space for the agency employees and also provide safe and convenient access to the 2,500 members of the public it serves each day. This project won several awards, including an AIA design award.
